December 4
Prayer of the Day
You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
—Exodus 20:4–6
Lord, forgive me for creating idols in my life—things or people I revere or value more than You. Whether it is caring more about raising a child who is successful in the world’s eyes than one who loves You, or caring more about how my child behaves in public than about the private condition of her heart, I repent. Continue to reveal to me my hidden idols, for I know that You are a jealous God and I long to please You.
